Raine Delight

A native Western New Yorker, this new author has always loved to read and making friends with the books she read over and over again. Finding the sensual and spicy side of romance opened new doors to many different authors and this author found herself imagining different scenes and characters. Taking a chance one day, an author was born and soon the Holiday Series came to light! Join Raine as she introduces you all to the hunky men in her imagination as well as the women who go toe to toe with them!

An Interview with Raine Delight

PNR: Can you tell us a little about how you started writing; was it something you have always wanted to do?

Raine D.: I also loved reading, even as a kid I was reading over a dozen books a week. I found my greatest friends in the words authors weaved amid the pageantry of times gone by, and I naturally began to write small things, weaving my own brand of storytelling. That is until I was encouraged a year or so ago to work at it seriously and I found I enjoy that creative aspect of myself.

PNR: Do you have a strict writing schedule? How do you balance your personal and writing time?

Raine D.: Nope, I write when the mood hits me and when it does I can write over 1000 words in an hour or so. It just depends on my mood. Writing by the seat of my pants can be rough but once my muse decides to come back from wherever he is, I find I am off and running.

Balancing is a work in progress for me. Weekends I hardly am online. I normally spend it with my kids and honey. It where I can relax, recharge and rest up. I find that by giving myself some downtime I can write guilt free during the week no problem.

PNR: Most authors are avid readers; what is your favorite genre to read? Favorite authors?

Raine D.: It really depends on my mood. I read historical, sci fi romance, fantasy, and contemporary. My favorite authors vary but the ones I always get are Bertrice Small, Nora Roberts/JD Robb, Maggie Shayne, Debbie Macomber as well as Felicity Heaton, Skylar Sinclair, Isabelle Spurrier and many, many more.

PNR: Being a newly published author, who or what has been the biggest influence on your work?  Who or what has been your biggest support?

Raine D.: My friends have helped keep me motivated and my honey has been my biggest cheerleader to date. I find if I bounce things off him, or rail at something the characters are yelling in my head, he calms me down and able to help me find the solution I need to find.

PNR: Your debut work, Sticky Magic, has received glowing reviews, as have your subsequent releases, Red Hot Magic and Charmed Magic; how does it feel to have such positive recognition for your work?

Raine D.: one word: humbling!!! It is enough for me to like what I wrote but to see others have, it means a lot to know it is getting well received and that I am growing as an author.

PNR: Your Magic Series from Mardi Gras Publishing is set in the fictional city of Devon Falls, contemporary time; can you tell us a little about your new series, where did the idea for the series come from and what inspired the intriguing characters?

Raine D.: The idea stemmed from when I was writing Sticky Magic and it just flowed into a 5 book series, centered on certain holidays. It was different than what I ever wrote before and it intrigued me, with all these characters popping up.

PNR: Could you tell us about the challenges you faced when using paranormal elements in a contemporary setting?

Raine D.: Trying to keep it interesting and not using the same element over and over again.

PNR: Could you tell us a little about how you develop your characters? Who has been your favorite character to write? The most challenging?

Raine D.: My characters let me know who they are and as I write their personality comes out. J  My favorite character is different for each story. J I love them all. Lol The most challenging right now is my Dracon Twins, Damien and Rodrick. These two are headstrong, alpha males who are driving me nuts. *grins* I am looking forward to seeing how their stories play out.

PNR: How would you describe the sensuality level of your books; do you find it challenging to write love/sex scenes?

Raine D.: My sensuality level is high and erotic in aspects. I have the romance as center stage but I don’t do closed door romance. I t does get graphic and erotic but I am always tasteful.

PNR: Paranormal romance in a contemporary setting is experiencing an incredible surge in popularity, what do you feel accounts for the sudden interest in this sub-genre? What is it about this setting that captures your interest?

Raine D.:  it is genre that sparks the imagination. I mean you can do different elements of paranormal in a contemporary setting and it will either be a hit or miss with the reader. The sky’s the limit on it and it helps that some fabulous authors are creating a different spin on it so it feels like new to a reader.

PNR: You have written in the romantic fantasy genre with your Magic Series; is there a genre you haven’t written but would like to try?

Raine D.: I would love to try a sci fi or historical but right now I am happy in my fantasy/paranormal field though I have WIP in various stages that are different genres. J

PNR: Could you tell us about your current projects, what can readers expect to see in the coming months? Do you have any additional series in the works? Single titles?

Raine D.: I have Fiery Magic (June 2007), Haunting Magic (Fall 2007) and Sticky Magic (Winter 2007) coming from MGP. Then I have a 2 book Fantasy Fae series that I am finishing and sending out to be published. Then I want to try my hand at a Demon series that is anxious to be written as well. Plus I am working with author SJ Willingon a comedic romance called Love you to bits and is absolutely hysterical! J I may go back to Devon Falls but after these 5 books I am more than ready to try something new. J

Fiery Magic and Haunting Magic are about the Dracon Twins, who are heirs to a family business, the Dragon Inn. A family of Shape shifters and Immortal, these two sexy, alpha men are about to find they are going to meet t heir match in the women they fall for.

Fiery Magic tells the tale of Damien Dracon. He broke Alicia Stevens heart when he chose to conceal his family secret and walk away from the only woman who made his life lighter and more enjoyable. Now he is back after several years away and he is determined to show Alicia that love is sweeter the 2nd time around. Only problem is Alicia has a secret that will either break Damien apart or bring them closer together. This 4th of July is about to explode as past passion rises and fate steps in!

Haunting Magic is Rodrick Dracon’s tale and is set at Halloween when the line of living and death blur. When Aunt Tabby hits him with a love potion on the eve of Halloween, Rodrick finds himself falling for a woman who can literally fall to pieces around him unless he can convince her to let him love her and that it isn’t a Halloween prank.

Sticky Magic is the one that started it all. This is a Christmas tale of a lonely woman’s wish for the love of her life and when walks in Marc du Bree, the passion explode and Christmas just got sweeter!
